Battle of Vigilus part 2

So, after the crazy rush paint and build of the Orks, I imagined what I could do in 2 weeks. Would I finish Dark Angels..... Nope managed to build and basecoat a tank. Also basecoated a bunch of Nurgle models but no real painting.

However, I did make it to a second Apocalypse game. Abbadon tried to assault an Imperium region. However, no chaos force was listening. So Mortarion due to an old promise to Horus (take care of the kid) a large Nurgle force came to help (majority of chaos players were Nurgle).

We also had a massive side attack on the Imperium by the Eldar..... And I do mean massive!

My mission was to hold a pipeline, capture an Inquisitor trying to get to a ship, and take over a water purifier. My opposite side of the table had a guard army. The nurglings really were the MVPs. They deployed forward on objectives and took an insane amount of fire. They actually eventually took the water purifier. My plague tower and Mortarion were decimated by the superheavy tank. 2d6 damage a hit! Took 27 on the plague tower in one turn! The fetid plague drones held the platform allowing the plague burster crawlers to destroy the Inquisitors ride. A summoned group of plague bearers then ate him. Overall a fun game. I really have to better deploy plague Marines. My Glotkin knight and many others never got in. Overall Eldar did the best, and chaos lost (abbadon and his force were destroyed).

Next is in two months. Debating working on Primaris Dark Angels, Eldar soup, or finally paint Wordbearers. Choices.

Bad Moons da best!

Made it to the battle almost entirely painted! This was a crazy game 20 players all bringing 200 battle level then we added super heavies! A great group of players who had fun without getting upset when models got shot to pieces! Also everyone was easy going about those of us with less 8th edition experience.

So, everything had some paint my deffakoppas were the only thing that didn't pass for fully painted. Had to do some packing

So, got there and had a ton of fun. I had two units become the MVPs.

So the gretchin unit (gobbos) are sitting on one of the objectives. They held that the whole game. One turn it was actually the primary. I put them forward on it as a joke that they didn't know any better. Now they did have back up

Basically supporting them was a unit of lootas, Ork shootas, painboyz, mek with shield and another gobbos unit to soak up wounds. Plus the Imperium players had so many orks moving right at them, this was a hard enough nut no one wanted to crack. The game runner joked my Bad Moons payed everyone else to distract the Imperium so he could get something from that spot. Seems to have worked. The Ork rush was big.

But my other mvp, was the often maligned on the internet, Stompa.

The Stompa destroyed one of the large knights in one turn. Another turn a superheavy tank and a bunch of basilisks. Another turn a bunch of leman russ and most of a standard imperial knight. He also took an insane amount of shots, holding on one turn with 1 wound! But eventually went down. Was a great overall game and crazy stuff happened all over. This week I'm working on some Nurgle tanks for the sequel in two weeks.

But I'll end with a few more pics of the mayhem.

One day more....

Almost to the day! Looking like 180 battle level fully painted, 20 bl and Stompa with three colors. Not too bad considering the time I had plus field trips, sickness and a one year old.

Week started with a massive staining project. Luckily Sunday was a relatively nice day. Had a nice little wind to keep the fumes away. I in general like to brush army builder strong tone on not dip. I tend to use the stain and antishine on most models. The extra protection I think is needed the amount these and boardgame models bounce around.

So while those dried I started working on the last Ork unit. Got some green on them. Wednesday I managed to spray the stained models with antishine.

Yeah a reaper model got done with them. Seems appropriate since I'll be blown off the board by turn two! Then I started the thing I didn't expect to be so hard.

Wow. I couldn't believe how bad the instructions for the Stompa were. They numbered the parts then didn't use them in the instructions! I also feel whoever wrote it was told to use as little paper as possible. This left a good deal of guessing where things needed to go. But it is an Ork piece, so to be fair there isn't a right way to do it.

I used excess parts to finish up my 2nd truck and bonecrusha. Ran out of paint for the airbrush but they are coming along nicely.

Now just to remember the rules to 40k and an army I've never used!

Week 3 Snags

So week one and two were going pretty well. However, I knew this week would be problematic. A multi day/night field trip was going to kill time. Then I forgot my tools two days and got a little sniffle! On the other hand is I think I can finish the list in time. I have to assemble a battlewagon and a few Boyz. The painting will be the real challenge, particularly the gretchin. But in terms of building...

I know nob bikers are no longer the range but I always wanted to build some.

Now that the majority is built time to prime!

So trying my airbrush for this army. This will be my first time doing vehicles. Wow, does it save time! I still need to improve my skill but I blame the gretchin who paint the Ork vehicles.

Hopefully next week more painting will get done!
